Building Congress & Exchange Honors Talented Craftsmen with Annual Awards

(Towson, Md. Nov. 3, 2016) –– The Building Congress & Exchange (BC&E) honored and recognized the extraordinary skill and talent of 21 individuals from the construction and design industry at the 78th Annual Craftsmanship Awards on Nov. 3 at the Warehouse at Camden Yards. The winners represent all facets of the industry.

Ove three days in June, the Craftsmanship Committee judged 49 nominations that ranged from architectural millwork and lighting to HVAC, carpentry, stone and metals. Each nominated project was judged based on overall craftsmanship including the quality of work, complexity of both technical and design challenges and the level of difficulty.

A complete list of winners is located below. To review videos about the winning craftsmen and their work, please visit the BC&E website at http://www.bcebaltimore.org/about-the-craftsmanship-awards/.

During the evening, the Building Congress & Exchange Foundation also honored four promising high school students with Future Craftsman and Design Awards: Nicholas Calvert from Western School of Technology, for Mechanical Construction/Plumbing; Anthony Evans from Edmondson-Westside High School, for Carpentry; Spencer Koenig from Carroll County Career and Technology Center, for Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning and Refrigeration; and Jared Lafferty from Carroll County Career & Technology Center, for Welding. In addition to recognition for their achievements, these students also receive scholarships to pursue further training, degrees or supplies to begin work in the construction or design field.

New this year, the Building Congress & Exchange introduced the Judge’s Choice Award. This award recognizes the highest scoring craftsman. This year’s award recipient was Daniel Ramirez from Hilgartner Natural Stone Company for his Interior Stone and Marble work at the Hilgartner Natural Stone Company Headquarters Building.

The second annual Rising Star Award, which recognizes an outstanding young craftsman who exceeds their company’s expectations and shows exceptional skills and promise in the industry, was awarded to Matthew Anderson, a Journeyman/Chiller Mechanic with Johnson Controls, Inc.
