Building Congress & Exchange Recognizes Craftsmen with Annual Awards

November 08, 2019

The Building Congress & Exchange (BC&E) honored and recognized the extraordinary skill and talent of 20 craftsmen at the 81st Annual Craftsmanship Awards on Nov. 7 at The Winslow in Baltimore. The winners represent all facets of the industry.

Over the summer, the Craftsmanship Committee judged nearly 40 nominations that included lighting, HVAC, carpentry, stone and iron work. Each nominated project was judged based on overall craftsmanship including the quality of work, complexity of both technical and design challenges, and the level of difficulty.

During the evening, the Building Congress & Exchange Foundation also honored three promising high school students with the Future Craftsman and Design Award: Logan Davidson from Winters Mill High School, for Electrical; Ariana Diaz from Century High School, for Drafting; and Jonah Maenner from Manchester Valley High School, for Welding. In addition to recognition for their achievements, these students also receive scholarships to pursue further training, degrees or purchase supplies to begin work in the construction or design field.

For the fourth year, the Building Congress & Exchange awarded the Judge’s Choice Award, which recognizes the best craftsmanship of the 20 winners. This year’s award had two recipients the Clifton Mansion Grand Stair team from Thomas Moore Studios for Conservation, Refinishing & Decorative Painting;and Verizon Wireless team from Rosendin Electric for Power Generation, Distribution & Switchgear.

BC&E inducted two craftsmen into the Master Craftsmen category. Julian Davis of Hayles and Howe and the first woman among BC&E’s esteemed list of Master Craftsman, Mariah Gillis from Thomas Moore Studios.
